45th Parallel Universe presents our 3rd annual Mississippi Chamber Music Holiday Variety Show, an exuberant evening of music, food, drink, and holiday merriment. We’re keeping all the festive fun of our beloved holiday pub crawl — just bringing it all under one roof for your convenience and comfort! Join us for an exuberant evening of music, laughter, and holiday cheer featuring vocalist Abbe Drake performing popular favorites, and the Klezmer Clarinets — James Shields, Lisa Lipton, and Ricky Smith — opening the night with their signature joyous energy. Then enjoy our much-loved Cello Christmas performance with six of Portland’s finest: Seth Biagini, Trevor Fitzpatrick, Toni Gan, Kevin Kunkel, Marilyn de Oliveira, and Sanga Yang. The program includes holiday classics reimagined, from Duke Ellington’s swinging take on The Nutcracker Suite to the nostalgic warmth of A Charlie Brown Christmas, after which we’re joined by singer / songwriter and frequent collaborator on opera and new works, Jim Brunberg, to end the night off with great holiday cheer! The only concert featuring the full 45th Parallel Universe, this program was inspired by last year’s powerful performance of Mahler and the remarkable voices within our ensemble — we knew we had to do it again. Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 dazzles with its luminous vocals, full chamber orchestra, and a heartfelt portrayal of a child’s vision of heaven — something we could all use right now. Soprano Madeline Ross joins 45th Parallel for this transcendent journey into serenity.
